Shelter houses and border guards

  • 342 girls  placed into the shelter house in Bhairahawa after interception at the border checkpoint
  • Medical, psychological and social care for these girls
  • Assistance in developing plans for their next steps towards a self-determined life and subsequent placement in further care or vocational training facilities
  • Refurbishment of the common room in the shelter house
  • Funding for maintenance repairs of the shelter house
  • Purchase of games and other materials for leisure activities (e.g. painting)
  • Border guard training of 32 young women who were freed from a brothel
  • Arrangement of return journey into the shelter house for 7 girls freed from Indian brothels.

Campaigns to raise awareness

  • Funding for a “life skills” training course for 19 girls working in bars and restaurants
  • Development of a network designed to provide mutual protection among women and girls in the region
  • Funding for the production of information material in cartoon format
  • Construction of two very large information boards at a main arterial road to the Indian border.


  • Funding flight and hotel expenses for a freed girl and a companion to attend a trial against a human trafficker in Mumbai.
